The House

We are a small, independent press for readers who want a book to weigh something: stories with the craft of the old world and the reach of the new, from new voices.

Ethos

Made to last

Every title is edited with patience and made as a lasting object, considered on the page and in the hand. We publish fewer books, and stand behind each one.

The List

Myth & the speculative

Fantasy and speculative fiction, memoir and poetry. Books that borrow the grammar of legend to ask distinctly modern questions.

Independence

Author-first

Independently founded and owned. We keep the writer close to every decision, from first edit to final imprint.

The Pontus House hippocampus mark

On the Name

Pontus was the primordial sea of Greek myth, the deep that came before the gods. Our mark is the hippocampus, the sea-horse of antiquity that drew the chariots of the tide.

Together they name what we publish: stories that rise from old, deep water and carry the reader somewhere new.
